The Jochenstein energy experience offers visitors fascinating insights into the world of hydropower. Experience firsthand how environmentally friendly energy generation works.

The interactive exhibition illustrates the complex processes involved in energy generation. Visitors have the opportunity to view the impressive Jochenstein hydropower plant, Where they can gain a comprehensive understanding of the significance of renewable energy.

Jochenstein — an architectural gem

Immerse yourself in the world of the Donaukraftwerk Jochenstein power plant and experience your tour of the power plant with 3D effects. At the heart of the tour is a mobile phone app that can be used to upgrade visitors’ smartphones to 3D glasses. Electricity generation and all the ancillary equipment is completely hidden under water or behind walls.

Visitors will discover hidden secrets about hydropower generation with the free “Jochenstein Energy Experience” app and handy virtual reality glasses. Observe local fish at the bottom of the Danube River and discover how power plants can be used as powerful waste collectors. The highlight is a virtual trip to a Kaplan turbine that even the most experienced engineers would not be able to take.

Opening hours

From 1 April to 31 October: 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily

And in the autumn from 1 November to 31 March: Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Admission is free.
