The flying fox zipline has become a popular attraction on the Schlegeis dam wall in the Zillertal Valley. You glide through the air at 131 metres above the ground and experience the feeling of weightlessness as you gaze down into the depths along the mighty concrete wall. The flying fox promises you an unparalleled thrilling experience!

Via ferrata on the dam wall

A unique via ferrata on the dam wall with a 200 metre long cable and A/B level of difficulty (including a C version). The via ferrata begins at the foot of the dam wall and ends at 131 metres high, it is suitable for beginners and advanced skiers alike.

The facility can be used free of charge and at your own risk. Equipment can be hired from the “s’Raschtl” snack bar.

“THE WALL” sports climbing route

“The Wall” sports climbing route is a challenge for all climbing enthusiasts. The route starts with level 5 difficulty and increases up to 7+ due to the overhanging curvature of the wall. Since it is a multi-cable route (5 cable lengths) and is very exposed in places, the climbing route is only suitable for experienced and accomplished climbers.

Children’s climbing on the Schlegeis

An easier via ferrata has been installed on the wall for children, which athletic parents can master together with their kids. There are also three climbing routes for children, where they can get their first climbing experience. Fun and adventure guaranteed!

Use of the children’s climbing facilities is free of charge, is only permitted accompanied by of an adult and is at your own risk.

Interesting facts about hydropower

The Schlegeis reservoir collects a total of 126.5 million m³ of water. At 725 m long, the Schlegeis dam is also the longest VERBUND dam wall. Impressive figures and comparisons, interesting stories about the construction of the facility and exciting information on electricity generation from hydropower can be found on one of the daily dam tours or in the VERBUND information centre in Mayrhofen.

Dam tour

Explore inside of the 131-metre-high and 725-metre long Schlegeis dam on the dam tour. Guided tours take place daily between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and last about an hour.

The meeting point for the tour is right at the entrance to the dam wall. Tickets and further information are available in advance from the dam attendant’s hut, opposite the s’Raschtl kiosk. Please note that unfortunately the tours inside the dam wall are not accessible.
